Phantasm and Hellhound miniatures

Postby Igor » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:59 am

Over on the Crimson Eagles Yahoo Group (I like the altitude aspect but the large hex size makes it out of the question for me) Dean Winson has posted the following (I've checked that its ok to repost this with him) ...
Hi all,

I'm a huge fan of the Crimson Skies universe, always have been, and have wanted
more plane figures for some time. Lets be honest, it's not going to happen
unfortunately.

However, I have seen fan-build projects get done for a few other games.
Essentially, one person commissions the wanted figures, based on 'promises to
buy' from other fans. It's not something that you could make money on but the
idea is to cover your costs and get the figs that you want.

Now, I am in no position to commission figures etc normaly, however a friend of
mine who happens to work for a large figure company and also happens to be the
go-to-guy for small scale tanks/planes/troops/titans etc, wants me to do some
work for him. I'm a landscaper, not that it really matters.

Now, as I said, I'm in no position to not take money and my wife would kill me
if she knew I was thinking about it. However, I am unexpectedly in a position
where I could get some figures made and they're figures that I'd really like to
own. I.e. the Rolls-Royce Phantasm and the Focke-Wulf Hellhound, perhaps others
such as the Bristol Bomber could be done later if this works out.

So the question becomes, would you buy those two planes and how much would you
realistically pay? They'd most probably have to be resin casts but I wouldn't
have thought that would bother anyone.

So, is this feasible?

Cheers
Dean

I'll be lining up for at least a pair

Cheers

Alan

Sorry but I was never that interested in the models. I was more just a fan of the stories and setting.

Fair enough but I think the majority of us would be, especially if we can get confirmation on this, then we could put in a group order.
I haven't done any work on the hoplite since my last post, so I am curious to see what can be done.
So in preparation of that what are the most popular requested models that were never in production?
I like the idea of the Fokke-Wulf FW 140 Hellhound and the Curtiss-Wright J2C Nemesis [although I imagine that the latter will have to be designed first]

I'd buy four each easily. Probably six if it meant getting the order placed.

It's on my "October projects" I have, meant to work on getting CS into "Headlines" again.

My favorites I always wanted mini's of was the FW-140 Hellhound (#1 plane in my opinion!!!), and the Tigershark (Pride of the Republic).

There are a few places out there, and it seems a minimum order (combined) of about a hundred and fifty PLEDGED will do it. If it looks liek tehre would be demand, it's sometimes dropped to about 100.

I think Eurekamin of AUstralia is still doing it?

yeah but as I said last time they outsource vehicles.
If I get off my butt and get some of that lovelly shrinking polymer [hydrospan400 or reductoII] and learn how to use it, then I could carve 12" or 6" models and shrink them down to 1" with all their detail and then . . . yes, I could do orders too.
And no I wouldn't demand a 100 model min. I would do a batch of 20 or 30 and then sell them on ebay.
Work on a new set, repeat as needed

Yeah, they're basically "Agents" in the sense of the term, but at least direct access and somewhat straight-forward of the ones I've seen,

The latest on this ...
Thanks guys, with the feedback from a couple of different forums, it looks like this is a go. I shall get these commisioned and produced. I haven't had enough replies to cover everything yet but I've had enough to believe it's worth while.

What I may do is produce what I can and sell to 'pre-order' people for one price and then sell the rest via ebay or similar for a higher price to make the money back. With any luck I'd get enough sales that way to commission more planes.

I shall let people know how it progresses.

Cheers
Dean

Not sure about putting Dean's email on an open forum so if anyone wants to contact him just PM me.

Igor, I lost the link to the yahoo group.

Would you mind posting it?

I'll get ahold of Dean, and ask him to pop over here, we can get more "Yes"s when it comes to orders and maybe we can set some stuff up.

The Crimson Eagles Yahoo Group is at <http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/crimsoneagles/> and the guy who is the driving force behind it has done some masterful work on it. Unfortunately with 4" Hex's it is a good proposition for a regular group and conventions but impractical for the family dining table IMHO.

I am here! MY actual post is going to have to wait until later though, my wife tells me I have to go out now.

Hello all.
