Map-maker. Printoff of large-scale maps.

Postby Grant » Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:39 am

Okay.

Finally got around to looking at the local Office Depot (ONLY store like this around), and no-go on having a bunch of taped together 8"X11" printed off in a larger map.

So: Question. Anyone capable of, or willing to print off a few 3X4 foot (Or something) maps?

I ain't going for anything ultra-fancy, but I am wanting 2 types:
#1: Standard hex-maps the same as Crimson Skies for aircraft use.
#2. Slightly reduced maps for use with 28MM Miniatures.

They could all actually be blank, or maybe a few rough details if I sent a rough sketch of what I wanted.

I could probably make up a bunch of 8X11's and tape them together, but I'd like to have them in a larger one-page format if possible.

I am willing to pay via Paypal, or Crimson Skies Miniatures. Let me know what you would charge and I'll let you know.

P.S. Badump......badump......badump..badump..badump..badump..badaaaaaaaaah..ouwhouwhouwh.

Can anyone guess that one? I got it running through my head right now ;) You get a free drink if you figure out that theme song.

Yep sure is ;) I always did like that tune, although it's stuck on rewind, play, rewind, play in my head.....Usually my inner-crazy disc jockey switches every 12 hours......

Well, first chance on here, I'll look around and see if there's any place else.

Perhaps by chance is there a palce that deals in this?

You can find any number of places to do it for you online as long as you have a digital file of your map that you can upload. Search for either "oversize printing" or "large format printing". I've used Winkflash for lots of custom photo gifts and have been very happy with them. The size you are talking about would cost around $35. You might be able to do a little better on price if you look around enough, or if you buy several of the same print.

Okay, I'll look into it, and see what I'll have to get to make it feasable.

I use a CAD program that can draw hex grids and put graphics behind them (Google Maps) which I could print off on A3 sheets, don't know how much a tube would cost for postage to the States from Sydney. Or I could send the file and you could get them printed off at a printer over there. Just tell me the diameter of the Hex (point-to-point) and I'll post a draft.

Simple.

This was something I put together just now (click on the thumbnail) ...

... it is set to print on A3 but if you use scale to fit it will fit on any size page.
