Crimson Skies Game every Sunday. 17:00 or 18:00 GMT

Postby Grant » Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:53 am

Well I had planned on getting a game up this weekend, but

I was thinking of starting one mid-week, IP game. Anyone got a particular day that would be bettter? It would be around 22:00 to 24:00 when it started, so it's probably to late for anyone, but it's just a thought.

If it fails, I'll try it on the weekend.

Two things killed it
[1] Micro$oft - they killed CS in the zone, there-by making it harder to co-ordinate multiplayer games. [note] Gamespy was not available at the time for CS, though it was within a month.
[2] First NVIDIA then other companies started to break backwards compatability for older games [remember CS came out in 2000, its an old game now] forcing players to use software rendering mode [which sucks].
After the zone was axed alot of clans and new players started to disappear, after the Card manufactureers betrayed us a lot more left. Only the dedicated players remained [using software rendering or keeping older machines that could still run it], then one day you would join the lobby at Gamespy and find 3 people there, 1 wanted to fly, one wanted to know what this game was all about and the other was yourself.
Then by 2005 - 2006 the PC version of CS was dead.
It wasn't until mid 2008 that there was a revival of people interested in CS [mainly due to the news that Weisman had re-obtained the rights to CS, Mechwarrior and Shaddowrun, and that a new game might be released in November 2009], old users came back and were p :!: :!: ed that the issues still had not been addressed, and consequently several action groups formed to address the injustice.
Others went back to Gamespy but found that it was too difficult to launch games from there anymore so they went to new servers to host games, and finally there fanatics like ourselves that try and organise games via email and forums.

P.S.

It will be an IP<>IP game. I'll post the IP after I connect. If a phone call comes in, I will reconnect, and repost the new IP.

12 minute rounds, with 5+ minutes per game to allow anyone else wanting to join.

Round choice will be up to majority rules players (With occasional oddball matches thrown in).

Sorry, I won't be able to make this one either - my Sundays around noon are sort of locked up for a while.
