Danger Zones

Generally speaking it is quite general.

Danger Zones

Hey guys!
Talk has been slow lately so I thought I might start something which is not only fun to explore but educational [ie. it helps those newbie pilots learn how to negotiate tight turns]

Something I like to do in the PC game is barnstorm [or "Danger Zones" as they call it] The idea is that you fly through these designated areas and someone just happens to take a happy snap of your success [or your attempt at aero-carving].
The thing is not all of the places are listed in the game, some are hidden and others were for features or events that were later scrapped.

The first one I want to share with you guys is located on the first map, Hawaii.
In the atoll where the shipwreck is located on the sea side you will find [after careful examination] a large stone door.
If you shoot this out water from the atoll pours out and reveals a tunnel [Secret danger zone #1]into the atoll's lagoon.
This further unveils the shipwreck and leads me to secret danger zone #2.
Image
To fly through the shipwreck fly at just above stalling speed at the hole closest to the water [near the rocks] enter the hole aim up through the deck and fly full throttle out of there.
Image
Some pilots have trouble doing either of these two stunts but with a little practice they can be achieved. :ugeek:

Here is a quick replay just to show you that it can be done.

My apologies for the bad video, the original is perfect but it was 300mb this cut back version seems to have lost quite a bit of detail and audio sync

Thats about it for the Hawaii map, yes there are the three other Danger Zones, Tiki Tunnel, Fallen Trees & Zeppelin flyby, but I am sure you can manage those by yourselves.

The next map I would like to deal with is the Movie Studio map.
This one doesn't have much in the way of secrets, especially since the single mission "Nefarious Trap" covers most of the Danger Zones as shown here.

Image
Now you will note that I only passed through one of the"O"'s in the Hollywood sign, the other two "O"'s and the "D" are also danger Zones.
Now apparently in your journal there is space for one more danger zone. . . . Damned if I know where it is!
I have flown through every crack wide enough for a plane and quite a few that aren't and I can't find it!
So if anybody wishes to enlighten us as to the whereabouts of this mystery danger zone please speak up, otherwise I think we should label this one as a premature programmers glitch

* * Note * *
Ah yeah, sorry for all the spinning . . . I found that a combination of barrel rolls and low level flying increases the planes speed quite a bit.
Also I found it easy to count each turn based on how many rolls it took to make.

Problem is, not all are compatable ;) Not sure exactly which is which, but in "The nefarious trap", if you come in first place, you don't get the white ribbon.

But like Fox, I've explored every nook and crack in the game.

Amazing the stuff I find on CS that I've never seen before. I'll have to try the ship thing tonight.

I've never been too big at getting all the photos. Fallen trees is only about a 10% chance of success for me, depending on the plane that is.

I don't recall a white ribbon for the race. You get a photo of you (Nathan) getting a trophy.

One thing I found recently is in Hollywood, on the Sci-Fi set if you shoot the rocket ship (not the alien saucer) the rocket will ignite and take off. It always lands in the same spot and I've never gotten it to hit anyone nor am I apparently able to shoot it down (short, fast flight) but I occasionally try.

Also, in Hawaii, sometimes on the trees but a lot on the stone markers around the island, if you shoot at them as you approach you will see small birds fly off of it. I've tried in an Auto Gyro to shoot the birds in flight but it's hard.

In Colorado, if you fly through McCoy's diner, do it slow enough and look to the side you can see all the booth seats. It's quite well "decorated" for something most people won't take the time or effort to try to see.

"Check Six!"

I'm a pretty terrible pilot, I think in all the times I've replayed CS I've only won that race once... yeah, once.

I've never kept up with that taxi driver in Manhattan.

@foxmalcolm
Thanks for the info about the shipwreck. I've played the game through several times and I've never spotted this before.

In regard to the eighth stunt in "Nefarious Trap", it is not premature programmer's glitch. It has been right under your nose all along: you have to fly through the "H" in the Hollywood sign:

The scrapbook seems pretty screwed up in NYC though: In "Death on the Docks" only 10 stunts are displayed in your scrapbook even if you have achieved all 14 (some mouseovers are mismatched). Nevertheless, all 14 stunt snapshots are stored in the saved games folder, so you can copy the pngs into My Pictures or wherever.

Hey drunken_ewok welcome to the forums!
Thanks for the Danger Zone info . . . hmm I wonder why that has never worked for me before . . .
.
[Starts Game]
. . [Loads Map]
. . . [Flys around]
OK I figured it out!
Turns out that in the instant game Stunt flying maps none of the optional Danger Zones are marked or available.
I never tried to search for the missing DZ whilst in-game because of the time/event restrictions.
Apparently I have just spent many years searching out-of-game for something that is not there, DUH!
