Bombers

Postby yahzuk » Mon Feb 01, 2010 12:59 am

Hi All! I'm working on fine tuning my bomber rules and need a little help. I'm trying to ensure the system's robustness by modeling a dozen or so historic aircraft. I've got half a dozen American aircraft that I'm fairly happy with, but I'm not very well versed as of yet with other nation's bombers. So my question is what are the most important German/Japanese/Russian/other bombers that I should be looking at? I'm defining "bomber" very loosely here.... any plane greater than 10,000 lbs that can't be handled under the original FASA construction rules... Thanks in advance!

Dont forget the Hughes' Sproose Goose!

Maybe i can inspire you a bit with a few ideas for the rules.
I tried to make some rules by my own but till now there are lot of ideas but no final rules.

BOMBER or BIG Planes

Damagediagramm
Image
Additional a bomber has 2 extra wingsections. This image is a concept for a pusher. The idea behind the extra wingsection is that bombers have more wingspan then normal planes.
This rule is similar the autogyro rule where the wings are cut off the damagediagramm.

Image
Concept of a new hit table for the new wing sections.

max G: 1
no light stick allowed

BTN: 0-2
a new weight/cost table calculation.

Redlining:
normal as all other aircrafts

max Decel: 1

Stalling:
Bombers cannot stall

Engines:
at least 2

Turrets 1-3
Historical bombers have more turrets but for the balancing (the default zeppelin of the boxed set has 8 engine pod turrets) it is better to limit them.
if there is a maximum of 3 turrets ther will be allways a dead angle.
Turret Firearcs:
Image

Crew:
pilot + co-pilot + 1 gunner per turret

Rocket hardpoints:
8(BTN 2) 12(BTN 1) oder 16(BTN 0) ???

Thanks FF5. I was going in a similar direction with the inner and outer wings. Not sure how to handle the Spruce Goose.... in my zeppelin rules of a little while ago I made the Spruce Goose a Hollywood zeppelin!

Awesome Diagram Fox!

I have been using Patterson's bomber diagram, but that ones better.

Yahzuk: I look forward to your rules! I've been impressed by your zeppelin works!

Bombers I can think off:

Germany:
Junker 88 Dive/Level bomber
Heinkell 111.

Japan:
Mitsubishi G4M.

Russia:
TB-3.

To name the most important.

As far as i remember the Spruce Goose was also in the Crimson Skies PC game. In one of the Hollywood and also in a Manhattan mission.

If I should change anything on the diagramm or you need a tractor version drop me a line.
I can also send you the file as freehand10 format. I made all my damage diagramms (also the zeppelin ones) with freehand.
