SILVER NEWCOMERS SINK ZEPPELIN IN DARING RAID; SLATER’S SCOUNDRELS DISBANDED

Image

MARIETTA, May 3.— The destruction of the Rogue, a pirate zeppelin originally hailing from the Louisiana Territories as the freighter Le Triomphe de la République, near the ISA city of Marietta during last Thursday’s battle marked the flaming end of one pirate band and the rise of another.
The local bandit command, Slater’s Scoundrels, unofficially disbanded after their newly-acquired mobile airbase and headquarters crashed in a field shortly outside of city limits. Though approximately fifteen crewmen and two pilots were killed in the crash, with the rest able to escape from the dying vehicle in time, no further casualties were reported aside from minor property damage to a local brewer’s barn. Though we managed to make contact with a handful the surviving members, we were unfortunately unable to get a unified response short of, as one former pirate put it, “Our zep is destroyed, our airstrip is destroyed, those [censored] [censored] stole my Defender and we still haven’t gotten paid. I’m outta here.” Solomon Slater, who we later managed to track to a small bar named 'Swingin' shortly outside of Covington, declined to comment.
The mysterious band of rogues responsible for the zeppelin strike—and apparently a simultaneous attack on the Scoundrels’ land-bound holdings in Eastern Kentucky—were much harder to track down. Our contacts and the descriptions of those who witnessed the fight finally allowed us to finger these newcomers as a recently-formed pirate command infrequently self-identified as ‘Cold Blue Steel.’ Cold Blue Steel, from what we were able to gather from our most recent findings, is a small pirate crew of four-to-eight highly skilled pilots that frequent the Dixie-Texas border, the former state of Arkansas in particular. While these bandits in their distinctive, blue-chrome planes, appear to have been primarily raiding a series of varied and unrelated targets, their most recent duel amongst the clouds seems to be the direct result of a bootlegging operation gone bad. Additional reports have placed them as the culprits behind a series of raids against the Republic of Texas—where the brigands rapidly denuded captured Air Rangers of their clothing and planes but left their bodies, if not their egos, unmolested—which, after the recent Unionist activity reported in the region, has led to a slight increase in security along the border. Current information suggests that their behavior around the Air Rangers may be the manifestation of a vendetta held by the pirates, or at least by their as-yet unidentified leaders.

(Further information will be added as the news articles update.)

This what we need to do more of! Awesome, though I'm sure Patrick would argue that the Air Rangers couldn't get caught up in such a raid. ;)

Phoenix will probably be posting the next one in the form of a radio broadcast and we may start writing down what the various intelligence agencies think they are/have, albeit bit-by-bit.

As for the Air Rangers, the first time was a remote supply station that had a couple of them (t'was actually our first mission). The other one was where we did a night-strike where we made off with two of their planes before the rest could get off the ground, giving us a 6-to-4 advantage (and two nice new planes) for our daring.

Many thanks, Cyagen. Edited the name with the mainland French version, as the name suggests it was a trading zep from France, itself. Sorry about the horrible mangling of the language... ^^;;
