The
Federal Republic of Georgia

Federal Military
The Federal Republic's first days started way back at the end of the
Great War. General (Nikolai, english spelling) Wrangel,
commanding a large army of White Russians, led a mobile anti-bolshevik
campaign across middle Russia. As the Red forces slowly
became more organized and larger, he eventually called for a retreat
into western Europe, ending the civil war for the most part.
Wrangel's plans of a federal republic first came in late '32 when
rumblings began sounding from Moscow. When the Politburo
collapsed in '33, Wrangel managed to quickly assemble a large army
composing of former solders, and through shrewd wheedling and dealing,
got the support of another half dozen White Russian groups.
In the mass chaos that followed the collapse, he led the army (And now
air force) on a whirlwind campaign through Russia. Although his tactics
angered many of his contemporaries, it has led to their current
stability. Instead of directly engaging Red forces (Which
many wanted to do), he quickly secured an area in the Caucasus, and
began quick raids into Red territory, attacking and capturing solely
supply depots, and avoiding contact when possible.
After Red resistance began stiffening, Wrangel issued a call for all
remaining White forces to join him on the Caucasus peninsula, to form a
new anti-Bolshevik nation. With the various White fronts
collapsing in the face of a now-unifying Red force, many crushed and
scattered armies joined the new nation.
Wrangel at first set up a deal with the local Georgia leaders and
formed the new government, however in only a few months, large portions
of the Caucasus fell in behind him and his growing army against the
Reds, his army expanding even more with local recruits joining his army.
While Wrangel is technically the head of the new Federal Republic of
Georgia, he has appointed a number of loyal and reliable men to oversee
the various aspects of government while a official government can be
installed. Wrangel himself, currently leads the Georgian armed
forces, and is constantly upgrading the front lines and rear defence
areas.
Elections for a official government are to take
place in March, 1938, however it is expected that Wrangel will win by a
landslide. Although the White Russians are
associated with monarchy, many are merely White by association, and a
large number support democracy. As such, the Federal Republic, IS
an actual Republic, with an elected (Temporary head currently Wrangel)
President, and parliament and house.
While Stalin re-armed and re-organized his forces, Wrangel quickly
secured a large portion of the Caucasus, and began entrenching his
lines. He had barely finished his preperations when
Stalin's offensive came. With massive losses, and just barely
holding the line, Wrangel shoved back the Soviet forces, gaining
himself and the new nation precious time. Currently,
the Republic is remaining solely on defensive, with only occasional
counter-raids and small cases of espionage.
The new Republic is defended by weaponry acquired in the 34-35
raids. With very little industry, the Federals have relied
almost solely on stockpiled weaponry and new weapons purchased and
brought in. The government is strapped
financially however, thus, most of the equipment serving on the front
lines are former USSR issue. With quality ranging
from Great War era howitzers to brand new 122MM guns, and anti-tank
weapons, the stockpiles are slowly, but steadily diminishing as battle
and wear take place.
The ground lines are condensed into strongpoints, containing the newest
weaponry and supplies, with the ground in between heavily laced with
anti-tank and infantry mines, booby traps, and protected by older
artillery pieces. The mountain areas are
likewise fortified, with primarily outdated weaponry in place.
Due to the rough terrain, the benefits of abandoning outdated weapons,
VS having to move precious new equipment in the face of enemy fire is
deemed a necessary evil.
The air defence is left to the 4 Battlezeppelins and dozen patrol
frigates and converted liners. All the front line units currently
use modern aircraft, but most reserves are still armed with the
outdated I-16 fighter, and aging copies of the Hughes Devastator.
Amazingly enough, the Federal Republic is however best protected by
it's ground fire. Knowing of their lack of true air power, the
White government focused on heavily interlaced anti-aircraft
gunnery. Airfields are protected by a net of machine
guns and rocket launchers, while pockets of AAA protect large sections
of the lines. Georgia is also one of only a
couple of places that are making use of a new weapon, Chain-guns.
Which do not operate through the function of a catridge, but an
electric motor. Finicky, and prone to
jamming, when used in numbers, it's massive firepower advantage far
outweighs it's flaws.
The Federal Republic's greatest challenge is lack of
infrastructure. Only a few basic factories, no established
refinaries or the like. Wrangel has had two
plans instated to help this along.
The first is the bringing in of foreign oil companies to Georgia's
southern border, far away from the Soviet threat, where several
companies (One notably Iron-Fist Industries of Germany), have begun
drilling large oilfields, and have set up a number of refinaries, while
another has set up a helium mine. This
will provide a flow of income for the cash-strapped White government.
The second, is national production. Using their precious funds,
Wrangel has authorized the construction of a zeppelin yard, helium mine
and refinary, three large oil fields, a natural gas field, and 4
differant arms factories. This will literally drain the
coffers, however it is seen as a better gamble in the long-run. Making
the nation moderately self-suffeciant in helium, fuel, and ammunition,
although national food production is low.
Currently the Republic is still in it's infancy. Large reserves
of equipment are within it's borders, but supply reserves dwindle more
every day. If the oil industry can be sped ahead, and a few
base industries set up, it has a good chance of survival
